GREEDY KILIFI COUNTY MCAs DEMAND CARS FROM MUNG'ARO OR THEY SABOTAGE HIS WORK.

A storm is brewing in Kilifi County between the area Governor Gedion Mung'aro and his MCAs over the usage of county government funds.

The MCAs are differing with the County Boss over a car grant of Ksh.2Million that they claim would have been included in the supplementary budget of Ksh.600Million that they passed in October last year.

The MCAs have so far refused to pass key bills at the county assembly including the County Intergrated Development Plan(CIDP),the County Fiscal Strategy Paper and a supplementary two budget of Ksh.400Million until the whole debacle on their car grants is settled.

Most of the MCAs are first time MCAs from the opposition side who have decided to take the County Boss head on regarding many issues at the assembly chambers, being seen regularly in public criticising the Governor who is an ODM stalwart.

However, the Governor seems unperturbed by their complaints and has insisted that he has set aside the priorities of the county and the demand for cars from the MCAs in none of them,"I've said categorically that the money at the county coffers are for buying seeds and fertilisers for the farmers of Kilifi, buying medicines for our hospitals and to bring water to our people, not cars for the MCAs,"said the Governor during an event to distribute seeds and fertilisers to farmers in Tezo.

The maize that was being distributed was of the DK 8033 brand that grows very quickly under minimum rain and was meant to be disbursed to all the 35 wards in Kilifi and every ward was to receive 40 sacks of the highly valuable maize together with subsidized fertilisers that was being sold at a very cheap prize all over the county.

The Governor promised to bring another 15 tonnes of the maize to top up on the 24 tonnes he had distributed earlier in efforts to ensure there is food security in the county,a promise he is keen to fulfill after dominating his campaigns in the August election.

"We are asking the Governor to give us our cars since we are walking barefooted in the streets, something that is demeaning our statuses as waheshimiwas.Even the Governor himself is moving inside a car, what about us,we also want to be like him," said one of the MCAs who sought anonymity for fear of backlash from his ward electorates.

Majority of residents who were interviewed  had mixed reactions about the whole fiasco with majority claiming the MCAs have proven to be very greedy people who are keen at fulfilling their selfish interests at the expense of the people,"Those MCAs should be ashamed of themselves, how comes they are demanding for cars yet majority of people are dying of hunger in Kilifi, the Governor should tighten the noose on them,"said Kashuru, one of the residents in Kibaoni.

It is yet to to be seen how these dramas will unfold keeping in mind that this can lead to crippling of services to the people of Kilifi who expect maximum co-operation from their leaders to bring the much-needed developments that they were promised during the campaigns.

  1. Cars are not a priority as of now. Saving life from hunger and improving agriculture production should be top on the agenda
